Extracorporeal Shock Wave

Extracorporeal shock wave therapy is used to treat chronic heel pain (plantar fasciitis/heel spur syndrome) and other orthopedic injuries. During this non-invasive surgical procedure, sonic waves are directed at the area of pain using a device similar to that currently used in non-surgical treatment of kidney stones."Extracorporeal" means "outside of the body," and refers to this non-invasive surgical procedure in which strong sound waves are directed at the area of heel pain. This revoltionary new treatment modality enables athletes to return to their previous level of activity quickly and safely.

Sometimes the body gets "stuck" in the pain phase. A phase of non healing and an inability for conservative measures to any longer make a noticable difference. The sonic waves of ESWT penetrate deeply into the tissue to promote revascularization or new blood flow as well attract growth factors and other healing molecules to begin the process repair. The further breakdown of scar tissue and fibrosis by ESWT enables the body to finally get back on track and tired old injuries begin to heal.
